1992 — 2022

Matthew Thomas Woodman died on March 19, 2022 at the age of 30. He suffered from periodic epileptic attacks, the last of which resulted in cardiac arrest. Matthew was born in San Antonio, TX in 1992 to Thomas Woodman and Vicki Ralls-Woodman. When he was eight, he and his family moved to North Ogden, UT, where he graduated from Weber High School. He earned an Associate of Science degree from Weber State University, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Sustainability Studies from the University of Utah.

Matthew had an extremely kind, considerate and generous soul, with a smile and a sense of humor that brightened the lives of those who knew him. He was selfless in his passion to help others. He was adept at showing others a better way by example, and everyone who knew Matthew became a better person because of him. He refurbished donated bikes to be donated by a non-profit organization to those in need in Salt Lake City. He loved teaching kids how to maintain their new bikes. He also enjoyed teaching high school students and teachers across the country about nature, geology, erosion, the environment, and caring for our resources, while housing them on a beautiful natural property outside of Moab. , UT. He was extremely proud of the work he did in a home for struggling high school students. He was a mentor to them, participating in outdoor adventures such as hiking, biking, snowboarding and swimming, as well as indoor activities such as skateboarding, climbing walls, cinemas and counseling and therapy sessions. He enjoyed the outdoor adventure opportunities Utah had to offer by rafting, hiking the highest peaks, camping and hiking in numerous state parks and national, as well as trips to the hinterland.

Because of Matthew’s passion for life and his love for others, he chose to be an organ and tissue donor and now offers life and a better life to others, while helping the science and research to develop procedures that save lives.

Matthew is survived by his paternal grandparents, Tommy and Carole Woodman; his parents, Thomas and Vicki; his brothers, Thomas Woodman II, Christopher (Melinda) Ralls; and Aaron Ralls; and all his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Monte Ralls and Maudie Jo Campbell.

Funeral services and a celebration of life will be held at a later date in Rockport, TX. Due to Matthew’s loving spirit, it is requested that random acts of kindness be performed in his memory.
